Meet the Interns--Andrew McAllister

My name is Andrew McAllister and I was born in Tallahassee, Florida, but grew up in Franklin, NC. I will graduate in May from UNC with a double major in Global Health & Environment and Latin American Studies. One day, I'd like to work in refugee camps and help with disaster relief.

I think the goal of STS is awesome - using sports to teach kids about serving and leadership. One thing about Sports That Serve that stands out to me is the vision of how sports are a great platform with which to reach kids. Many people desire to invest in the lives of kids, but have trouble committing to long term volunteer programs because of scheduling challenges. STS offers an opportunity for those people to get involved by helping to put on one day camps where they can teach kids good values and make a real difference. Sports enthusiasts have told me before that they would like to help kids overseas, but simply don't have the opportunity. STS is the answer to that challenge: by helping teach a sport they love and investing in kids here in NC, they can support kids in Ethiopia that would otherwise be unreached.

**Welcome to the team, Andrew!! Fun fact: Andrew drove across the country on his motorcycle to come to our STS Interest Meeting this fall. You can ask him more about it.**
